A Poison Tree BY WILLIAM BLAKE

I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I water’d it in fears,
Night & morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night.
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine.

And into my garden stole,
When the night had veil’d the pole;
In the morning glad I see;
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

  1. This is one of my favourite poems of all time! I recited this many times to myself as a reminder of why hating people is never a healthy option, not for anyone.

    Thanks for the reminder!

      I never heard of it until I watched a film (series) titled THE ORIGINALS. A vampire I admired recited it, then I googled it up. I’ve known Mr. Blake for a long time though.

    Mr. Blake had a way with words. Thanks for sharing and also, thanks for becoming a fellow fence jumper at the Cow Pasture Chronicles. I hope you will continue to enjoy my musings.
